Perry and Laurie Smith, Directors of Clearwater Camp
Thank you so much for your interest in
Clearwater Camp. It is indeed a special place where young lives are
touched and molded. I am pleased to share with you information about us.
Being a successful camp counselor is one of life’s most rewarding
experiences. Please give it your most careful consideration
 The hiring of staff is perhaps the most
critically important responsibility for camp directors, because the
staff sets the tone for the entire camp. Campers look to Counselors for
moral leadership as well as skilled activity teaching. Counselors must
place campers’ interests and well being uppermost in all their
dealings.
For counselors this may mean working
harder and giving more of themselves over more hours per day than any
other job might ask of them. Additionally Clearwater counselors are
asked to adhere to regulations which may not have been asked of them
recently, e.g. good table manners in the dining room, enthusiasm for the
task at hand, a 12:30 curfew, etc. None of these is difficult if the
counselor truly is at Camp primarily for the campers, and she knows that
it is in giving that we find real joy in living.
The following pages should help you gain
a better picture of Clearwater The text from our current brochure gives
a detailed statement of our philosophy and its implementation. While the
job description outlines individual responsibilities, it is by working
together that counselors and campers have a fulfilling and joyful summer
experience. Good times and fun are had by all!
