A camper's participation in the Clearwater program results in tremendous growth over the seven week period. It takes time to make friends, to see one's potential, to learn skills and, as often happens in the final weeks of camp, to enjoy thoroughly newly found abilities, making them one's own.

The activity program at Clearwater is designed to allow for the growth of the camper not only at the activity level but also in the camper's relationships with others and herself. Weeks in camp are a time to explore, to develop new hobbies, to have fun, and also to learn the satisfying use of non-scheduled time.

Clearwater does not have awards for achievement in activities. Instead, if competition is to develop among campers, it is the decision of the campers to compete. Clearwater relies on a camper's natural enthusiasm, its staff, and its flexible, yet determined, program to provide the initiative leading to success and mastery of activities.

The formal part of the program includes 18 hours of instruction per week in the "regular" activities:

Archery
Arts & Crafts
Campcraft
Canoeing and Canoe trips
Ceramics
Drama
Fishing
Kayaking
Music
Nature Lore
Outdoor cooking
Pioneer Camping
Photography

English Riding
Sailing
Sailboarding
Swimming
Tennis
Tumbling
Waterskiing
Windsurfing

Each week, every girl receives a new schedule of activities. Her program is built around her activity preferences, her parents' requests, and the best use of staff and equipment. Each activity is governed by safety rules and procedures, which are designed for the safety of the campers and the proper learning of the activity.

For an hour in the morning and a half hour in late afternoon, a camper may select what she wishes to do. She may decide to go swimming with some of her friends, to work on her sailing skills, to complete a project in the Arts & Crafts shop; or she may decide to read a book, write a letter or watch other campers play tennis. Whatever she selects, the camper will find that there is a staff member in the activity or unit area ready to help her or simply be near in case of need.

Evening activities are generally enjoyed with a larger group. Sometimes members of the unit will decide to go sailing or canoeing for an hour. There may be a sing around the campfire, roasting of marshmallows, working on a project for the camp, planning Sunday's nondenominational service or Saturday evening's all camp party.

Clearwater's trip and sailing programs provide some of the happiest memories for Clearwater girls. Come explore these wonderful activities with us now.
